Global agribusiness Cargill plans to purchase assets of Brazil-based Granol, the company confirmed Aug. 21.

Cargill is submitting a binding offer to Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) for the necessary approvals to acquire Granol’s soybean-crush and biodiesel plants in the cities of Anápolis in the state of Goiás, Porto Nacional in Tocantins, and Cachoeira do Sul in Rio Grande do Sul.

In addition, the deal includes Cargill’s purchase of four warehouses in the states of Goiás and Tocantins.

“The purchase intention is in line with Cargill's growth strategy in Brazil and Latin America and reinforces the company's purpose of nourishing the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way,” Cargill stated.

Granol has a nationwide presence in Brazil whose assets include:

  • Five crush plants

  • Three biodiesel plants

  • 17 regional warehouses

  • Two oil refineries

  • One lecithin plant

Granol has the capacity to process more than 2.6 million tons of soybeans per year.

The company has the ability to refine 600,600 tons per year of crude soybean oil.

Granol can also produce nearly 284 million gallons of biodiesel per year and refine 66,000 tons per year of double-distilled glycerin.
