The Geelong Manufacturing Council announced Feb. 18 that Viva Energy Australia’s Geelong refinery in Victoria has received international certification for producing coprocessed renewable diesel and advanced recycled plastics.
“This achievement marks a big step forward in Australia’s journey toward cleaner, low-carbon fuels and sustainable packaging,” the council stated.
The certification for renewable diesel is an important breakthrough for Viva Energy, according to the council, positioning the Geelong refinery to become an early manufacturer of low-carbon liquid fuels.
The coprocessed renewable diesel produced will allow diesel users such as heavy-vehicle fleet operators to reduce their carbon footprint without having to purchase different technologies or modify existing vehicles.
“By transforming used cooking oil and waste plastics into valuable products, Viva Energy is helping businesses reduce emissions and embrace greener options—without costly upgrades or disruptions,” the Geelong Manufacturing Council stated.
