Mahoney Environmental expands sustainability-compliance support for low-carbon fuel programs

Mahoney Environmental, a provider of used cooking oil (UCO) recycling and grease-trap services, announced it is expanding its sustainability-compliance efforts to support California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard and California Air Resources Board requirements.
The expansion builds on Mahoney Environmental’s participation in the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU system and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, which govern the sustainability of fuel feedstocks in Europe and international aviation.
Mahoney Environmental collects and cleans UCO and grease-trap material into feedstock for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
As demand for low-carbon fuels grows, producers and regulators increasingly require documentation that waste-based feedstocks meet applicable standards.
“Used cooking oil is a valuable resource,” said Dave Kimball, the president and CEO of Mahoney Environmental. “Expanding our work to include LCFS and CARB means we can support our customers across more of the markets where low-carbon fuels are made and sold.”
Founded in 1953, Mahoney Environmental helps food service companies, from major restaurant chains to independent establishments and airport concessions, turn UCO and other waste into valuable materials.
The company manages the full recycling process, from equipment installation and collection to processing and delivery, with nearly 100 percent material recovery.
Mahoney Environmental was acquired by Neste in 2020.
