Shell Nederland and Van Kessel have signed a letter of intent to work towards a strategic partnership.
The collaboration aims to strengthen services for business customers in the Netherlands and accelerate the energy transition towards net-zero emissions.
Both parties share the ambition to make sustainable-energy solutions more accessible and to grow together in a rapidly evolving market.
The partnership is based on an integrated approach, combining expertise, infrastructure and customer solutions.
Based on this shared vision, Shell and Van Kessel will collaborate in three specific areas: fuel deliveries to businesses, fuel and charging-card solutions, and expanding and optimizing the network of fuel and charging locations.
Over the past 135 years, Shell has grown into one of the Netherlands’ largest energy suppliers.
Van Kessel has been active in the sale and distribution of sustainable fuels, lubricants and energy to businesses, gas stations and wholesalers for over 104 years.
Interestingly, both companies began their history trading in lamp oil.
“The partnership will give us access to Shell’s global expertise, integrated energy solutions, business insights, technical know-how and innovation capabilities,” said Joan van Kessel, CEO of Van Kessel. “This will allow us to expand our offering and accelerate our sustainable growth.”
Sandra Geilings, Shell’s lead partner for corporate mobility in the Benelux and France, added, “Van Kessel brings in-depth knowledge of the Dutch market to this partnership. The company has strong customer relationships and a practical approach. Together, we can do more for the Dutch business market in mobility, energy supply and fleet management. And together, we can flexibly address the challenges we and our customers face on the road to net-zero emissions.”
The two companies see the commercial use of fuels with lower CO2 and methane emissions as a growth market.
Primarily, this includes biobased LNG and renewable diesel (HVO100).
Further electrification, with or without hydrogen as an energy carrier, is also a key focus of the partnership plans.
Shell and Van Kessel said they also hope to simplify the daily operations of businesses with the combined Shell card for business fueling and charging.
