Pacific Biodiesel opened a new B20 station next to its refinery on Hawaii Island in August.

B20 is a blend of 20 percent biodiesel with petroleum diesel.

“We are pleased to open this additional fueling station in Keaau to meet local demand for B20, which is a popular biodiesel blend among trucking fleets,” said Christopher Long, sales manager for Pacific Biodiesel.

Since 2022, Pacific Biodiesel has operated six biodiesel stations around the state where consumers and commercial fleets can purchase pure distilled biodiesel (B99.9) for their diesel vehicles, boats or off-road equipment.

Over the past several months, consumers have been paying more at the pump for gasoline and petroleum diesel due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East that have caused fossil-fuel prices to spike in Hawaii and abroad.

Currently, the price for locally produced biodiesel is lower than imported fossil diesel.

In August, for example, the retail prices for on-road biodiesel at Pacific Biodiesel fueling stations in Keaau were $6.14 per gallon for B99.9 biodiesel and $6.59 per gallon for B20 biodiesel.

Average petroleum diesel prices were $7 per gallon on Hawaii Island and $6.96 per gallon statewide.

“Locally produced biodiesel is critically important now more than ever before, not only for the environment but for energy security, national security and cost savings,” Pacific Biodiesel stated.
