New Mexico House committee recommends passing Senate-approved clean fuel standard

New Mexico’s House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee considered legislation passed by the Senate March 11 to establish a clean fuel standard in the state. The House committee recommended passing the measure, Senate Bill 11, titled the Clean Fuel Standard Act, March 16.

The legislation would reduce the average amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of fuel energy by a minimum of 10 percent below 2018 levels by 2030, and by a minimum of 28 percent below 2018 levels by 2040. Further reductions beyond 2040 would be determined by the environmental improvement board.
