Using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the energy department's Fact of the Week released Aug. 24 shows that a total of 1.9 billion gallons of biodiesel was produced in the U.S. in 2018, with production in 34 states.

Iowa was the lead producer with 365 million gallons, followed by Texas and Missouri with 227 and 216 million gallons, respectively.

While Montana is listed last with "0.0" million gallons, the DOE notes that less than 5,000 gallons of biodiesel was produced there in 2018.
