Certas Energy announced in late July that its fuel-cards team has won the “Supplier of the Year” award for its support during the launch and early stages of DP World’s low-carbon truck program (LCTP).

DP World launched the LCTP trial at its major U.K. logistics hubs, London Gateway and Southampton, to accelerate decarbonization of U.K. road freight.

With more than 4,000 truck visits per day at DP World’s two large U.K. ports, the trial can support the transition of at least 500 trucks to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also known as renewable diesel, with an estimated 85 percent less carbon than petroleum diesel.

The Certas Energy fuel-cards team has partnered with DP World to offer truck operators a low-carbon fuel supply.

Every truck that visits a DP World U.K. port with a loaded container more than 90 times over a three-month period will qualify for up to 5,000 liters (1,321 gallons) of HVO per vehicle per port.

The low-carbon fuel can be accessed either via bulk delivery to fuel tanks at truck operators’ yards or via fuel card at U.K. refueling stations.

“We’ve already had [nearly 1.35 million liters (355,576 gallons)] of HVO allocated among 378 heavy-goods vehicles (HGVs) and a total of 33 unique customers in the first, second and third quarters—and we’re looking forward to seeing those numbers rise,” Certas Energy stated.

A total of 71 hauliers have registered for the program so far, with 1,573 trucks participating, according to Certas Energy.
