Erasmo Carlos Battistella, president of Brazil-based biodiesel production company Be8, and Victor Hugo Saraiva de Almeida, the CEO of Investe Piauí, signed a letter of intent (LOI) Nov. 11 during COP30 to establish institutional cooperation aimed at investments to expand production capacity at Be8’s unit in Floriano, Piauí, Brazil, as well as to install at the same site the company’s second industrial unit dedicated to producing Be8 BeVant®.

According to Be8, BeVant® is a renewable biofuel that offers significant advantages over others available on the market and can be used at 100 percent concentration in diesel engines.

It reduces greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions and provides additional benefits such as:

  • A low acidity index, being free of contaminants.

  • High ester content, improving combustion.

  • Higher lubricity, eliminating the need for chemical additives.

Be8 BeVant® has the potential to reduce tank-to-wheel emissions by up to 99 percent compared to fossil diesel, according to Be8.

With higher ester content, it reduces carbon-monoxide emissions by more than 50 percent and particulate-matter emissions by up to 85 percent.

Quality, according to Be8, is ensured through higher lubricity, considering Brazil’s ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel maximum sulfur content of 2 parts per million (ppm), monoglyceride content below 0.25 percent, total residual contamination below 2 ppm, and 35 percent lower water content.

The Nov. 11 event included the participation of the Piauí Gov. Rafael Fonteles at Be8’s booth in the Green Zone at COP30.

Following this signing, Be8 will develop technical and economic-financial feasibility studies, a preliminary implementation schedule, and estimates of job creation and revenue, the company stated.

The agency will support the company in identifying strategic partners and monitoring requests for tax incentives.

The Brazilian state of Piauí is an emerging hub of the country’s sustainable energy matrix, benefiting from an investment-friendly environment marked by the availability of strategic resources, supportive public policies, expanding infrastructure and a growing innovation ecosystem.

“We are honored to sign this commitment, which reinforces our strategic objective of advancing the supply of renewable energy with expanded capacity to increase availability of our product here in the North Region,” Battistella said. “Another important step is having a second production unit for Be8 BeVant®, which has just been successfully evaluated during the Rota Sustentabilidade COP30, a project developed with Mercedes Benz.”

The company intends to expand the supply of the new biofuel to the logistics sector, public transportation and freight transport across road, waterway, maritime and rail modes, as well as equipment used in mineral production.

“The signing of this letter of intent during COP30 symbolizes the commitment of both parties to actively collaborate on the climate agenda, transforming global intentions into concrete investments and sustainable regional development,” Almeida said.
