Aemetis Inc. has awarded an engineering services contract to Worley for the Aemetis Carbon Zero sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel plant in Riverbank, California.

The plant, according to Aemetis, will hydrotreat renewable oils such as distillers corn oil using cellulosic hydrogen made from orchard and forest wood waste to make 45 million gallons per year (mgy) in 2023 with plans to expand to 90 mgy by early 2025.

The design includes hydropower electricity and carbon sequestration along with negative carbon intensity (CI) hydrogen to make an ultra-low CI renewable diesel fuel and SAF.

The Carbon Zero project team includes Koch Project Solutions as the EPC, Worley for engineering and technical solutions, Axens for process engineering and technology license, and ATSI serving as owner’s representative, working with Aemetis’ inhouse technology, development, finance, regulatory, and global sales and trading team members.
