ADM announced on social media in July that it has successfully completed its first global B100 biofuel trial voyage onboard the MV Harvest Rain, what the agrigiant called a major step forward in its lower-carbon logistics journey.

For five days off the coast of Brazil, teams worked together to test how 100 percent biofuel performs in real-world conditions, from storage and purification to engine performance and crew operations.

ADM noted that marine transport is vital to its global supply chain.

“This trial helps us better understand how biofuels can reduce emissions today while supporting our net-zero ambition by 2050,” the company stated.

“Even more notably, this voyage marked a first for ADM, acting as exporter, charterer, owner, receiver and processor,” ADM said.

The trial took place June 2-6 and consumed more than 107 metric tons of B100 marine biofuel.

“A huge thank you to the Harvest Rain crew for their expertise and commitment,” the company said. “As Capt. Swamy Singh Kohli shared, operating on sustainable fuels brings a renewed sense of purpose—directly supporting the decarbonization of global shipping.”

Insights from this trial will guide future planning across ADM’s marine fleet, helping scale more sustainable shipping solutions.
