U.S. Sens. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas; Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota; Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; and Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nevada, introduced the bipartisan Securing America’s Fuels Act to strengthen the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry, provide new markets for farmers and lower emissions in the transportation sector.

This legislation would reinstate the SAF bonus credit that would allow qualifying SAF producers to receive up to 35 cents or $1.75 per gallon, and it would extend the 45Z clean fuel production credit for all clean fuels through 2033.

“Kansas has a long history as a leader in agriculture and aviation, and this legislation will strengthen these industries while bolstering U.S. energy innovation,” Moran said. “As a founding member of the Senate Sustainable Aviation Caucus, I am committed to supporting the sustainable fuels industry to bolster our aviation industry, open new markets for Kansas farmers and rural communities and promote American energy independence.”

Klobuchar added, “Domestically produced biofuels strengthen our energy independence, support our farmers and boost rural economies. The introduction of the Securing America’s Fuels Act is an important step as we work to restore the full value of the 45Z clean fuel production credit. By extending the credit to 2033 and restoring the credit’s value to $1.75 this legislation gives farmers and biofuel producers the certainty they need to develop sustainable aviation fuel and other low-carbon fuels.”

Ernst said, “I’m partnering with my colleagues on the Securing America’s Fuels Act to ensure that the aviation industry can fully unleash the potential of homegrown, sustainable biofuels. When SAF successfully takes off, we open up new markets for our farmers, create more energy independence and support our national security.”

Cortez Masto added, “Nevada’s travel and tourism industries bring in visitors from all over the world, and it’s critical that we continue to embrace innovative aviation technology. This bipartisan legislation incentivizes cleaner airplane fuel that will support a stronger aviation system and a healthier environment for future generations.”
