Verso Energy to supply eSAF to Q8Aviation from DEZiR project in France
Q8Aviation, a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum International, and Verso Energy have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to support the long-term supply of electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) across Europe.
Verso Energy is planning to supply eSAF from its DEZiR project in Normandy, France, which will help its customers meet ReFuelEU aviation requirements and their own decarbonization targets.
“We are thinking ahead to what aviation needs for not just SAF mandates but eSAF—building European eSAF capacity today, so the fuel is there tomorrow,” Q8Aviation stated.
Verso Energy said it is honored to be selected by Q8 Aviation as a long-term eSAF supplier for its European operations.
“Our DEZiR project is set to become a long-term source of sustainable aviation fuel for Q8Aviation, supporting its preparations for the Europe ReFuelEU aviation regulation from 2030,” Verso Energy stated. “This collaboration is more than a supply agreement, it’s a vote of confidence in DEZiR, and in Verso Energy’s ability to deliver eSAF at scale, in Europe, for Europe.”
Once operational by 2030, the DEZiR project is expected to produce 80,000 metric tons per year of eSAF.
In March, Technip Energies invested in the DEZiR project to acquire a minority stake.
As a result, Technip Energies will contribute to the DEZiR project through the implementation of its carbon-capture solution, Canopy by T.EN™ powered by Shell CANSOLV, to capture biogenic CO2 from nearby industries and enable the utilization of this CO2 for eSAF production.
In addition, Rely—Technip Energies’ joint venture with John Cockerill dedicated to Power-to-X solutions—is carrying out the project’s front-end engineering design (FEED).
