US exports nearly 600 million gallons of renewable diesel in 2025

New data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that the U.S. exported well over half a billion gallons of renewable diesel in 2025, the first year EIA began tracking U.S. renewable diesel exports.

The data shows that 595.6 million gallons of renewable diesel was exported last year.

More than half of the U.S. renewable diesel exports in 2025 was shipped to Canada, totaling 312.65 million gallons.

The Netherlands received 189.6 million gallons of U.S. renewable diesel last year.

The U.S. shipped nearly 33 million gallons to Norway and more than 28 million gallons to the U.K.

More than 3 million gallons of U.S. renewable diesel was sent to Sweden while smaller volumes went to Brazil, Germany and Guyana.

The U.S. exported more than four times the volume of renewable diesel in 2025 than it imported, according to the EIA data.

Last year, the U.S. imported 142.5 million gallons of renewable diesel, a nearly 73 percent decrease from the record high of 520.55 million gallons imported in 2024.

In 2025, the U.S. imported more than 88 million gallons of renewable diesel from Canada and more than 54 million gallons from Singapore, the only two countries from which the U.S. imported renewable diesel last year.

Meanwhile, U.S. imports of biodiesel plummeted 92 percent in 2025 from the year before.

Last year, U.S. biodiesel imports approached just under 34.5 million gallons, down from almost half a billion gallons in 2024 (429.7 million gallons), according to EIA data.

U.S. exports of biodiesel in 2025 were also down, dropping nearly 55 percent from the year before.

Last year, the U.S. exported just shy of 82 million gallons.
