Registration for AGQM’s glycerol round-robin test open until Dec. 15

Registration for the latest glycerol round-robin test of the German biodiesel quality management association (AGQM) is now open until Dec. 15.

As part of this round-robin test, 34 parameters are analyzed, including for the first time the parameter 3-MCPD (3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol).

This parameter is also important for compliance with the specification as a food additive (E422) in accordance with Annex II of Regulation (EU) No. 231/2012.

Participating laboratories can compare their measurement expertise with many other national and international laboratories as part of the round-robin test.

This instrument of quality assurance has proven to be an indispensable tool in everyday life, according to AGQM, for checking and improving one’s own measurement performance and for identifying and eliminating possible errors in the method, on the device or during implementation.

After carrying out the round robin test, each laboratory receives an anonymized results report and a certificate of participation as proof of its own measurement expertise.

Glycerol with a purity of greater than 98 percent can be obtained, for example, as a byproduct of biodiesel production.

Glycerol is used worldwide as pharmaceutical glycerol or in the food industry.

“But when is glycerol good enough for these applications, and how can this be reliably determined?” AGQM posed. “Among other things, the regulations of the European Pharmacopoeia are used for the analysis and quality control of glycerol.”

This and other selected standard methods are the basis for AGQM’s round-robin test for glycerol.

AGQM is an organization founded by leading companies of the German biodiesel industry.

As a technical association, AGQM predominantly deals with all issues concerning the quality management of biodiesel and its byproducts.
