Petrobras announced June 19 that its board of directors approved the final-investment decision (FID) for a new biorefinery at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC) in Cubatão, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
The RPBC Biorefining project will include a dedicated plant for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.
The plant will have a production capacity of up to 15,000 barrels (630,000 gallons) per day of renewable fuels.
The investment for the renewable diesel and SAF project is estimated at approximately USD$1.2 billion.
With this approval, Petrobras will move forward to the final phase of contracting and execution of agreements.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year.
Start-up of the new biorefinery is scheduled for 2030.
