The New Mexico Senate passed a clean fuel standard, Senate Bill 11, on March 11.
The legislation would reduce the average amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of fuel energy by a minimum of 10 percent below 2018 levels by 2030, and by a minimum of 28 percent below 2018 levels by 2040.
Additional reductions beyond 2040 would be determined by the environmental improvement board.
The bill is scheduled for a hearing March 16 in the state House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
