Missouri Soybean Association thanks Gov. Kehoe for dyed-diesel relief

The Missouri Soybean Association thanked Gov. Mike Kehoe Sept. 30 for enacting a temporary halt on the state’s prohibition of red-dyed diesel on public highways in commercial vehicles licensed for farm use.
The move is paramount to providing farmers with relief on fuel costs during harvest.
“Missouri farmers are working to get their crops out of the field and to market while facing substantial pressure to their bottom lines,” said Cody Brock, MSA president and Norborne farmer. “We appreciate Gov. Kehoe’s recognition of that challenge and his work with MSA over the past week to provide relief to Missouri growers.”
Red-dyed diesel is commonly used in agricultural equipment for off-road work.
This order will suspend the state’s enforcement of red-dyed diesel being used in highway vehicles, effective immediately to Oct. 30, 2026.
It is important to understand this action does not waive federal dyed-diesel restrictions or authorize its use on interstates or U.S. highways under federal law.
Farmers should review the directive’s effective dates, eligibility requirements and agency guidance before using dyed diesel in highway vehicles.
“Gov. Kehoe’s action reinforces his longstanding support of Missouri farmers and ranchers, and we are actively talking with our federal officials to provide corresponding relief and clear guidance so farmers can use dyed diesel with confidence,” said MSA CEO Casey Wasser. “Our priority is practical assistance that lowers the cost of getting Missouri’s crops and livestock to market.”
In addition to his support of red-dyed diesel, Kehoe has acted to allow eligible harvest loads of up to 90,000-pounds—an increase from the existing 88,000-pound harvest limit.
This change is subject to the directive’s requirements, applicable routes and bridge restrictions.
The additional capacity helps farmers haul more grain per trip, reducing fuel use and increasing transportation efficiency.
