Luke McCrea of Faribault, Minnesota, is the recipient of the 2026-’27 soy scholarship sponsored by the American Soybean Association and BASF.

The ASA/BASF soy scholarship is a $7,000 award presented to an exceptional high-school senior who excels in both academic and leadership roles and plans to pursue a degree in an agriculture-related field of study at an accredited college or university.

The scholarship is open to children and grandchildren of ASA members.

“ASA is proud to partner with BASF in supporting initiatives that equip and inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders,” said ASA President Scott Metzger, a farmer from Williamsport, Ohio. “By investing in promising individuals like Luke, we are helping cultivate a strong, innovative future for agriculture.”

McCrea plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall and will pursue an agriculture-communications degree.

His impressive agricultural involvement includes leadership roles in 4-H and Future Farmers of America.

McCrea served as FFA chapter president and helped grow the largest student organization in his school.

He also served as a regional officer and president, helping plan and implement regional leadership conferences, which have helped develop the next generation of agriculture leaders.

Aside from an impressive academic achievement and robust agricultural leadership roles, McCrea is involved in various community and civic activities.

He participated in American Legion Minnesota Boys State, a leadership and citizenship program, focused on teaching about the mechanics of American government and politics through hands-on learning.

Additionally, he is an active volunteer and youth leader both in school and his local community.

“BASF is committed to investing in students who will help shape the future of agriculture,” said Scott Kay, vice president of BASF Agricultural Solutions U.S. “We’re proud to partner with the American Soybean Association to offer the 2026 Soy Scholarship, supporting passionate students like Luke who are dedicated to advancing one of the world’s most essential industries.”
