DHL Express announced April 12 that King of Rims Malaysia, a leading retailer of car parts and accessories, has signed onto DHL Express’ GoGreen Plus service as part of ongoing efforts to address climate change.

The agreement allows King of Rims Malaysia to invest in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for a 30 percent reduction in the carbon emissions of its time-definite international shipments.

“King of Rims Malaysia shares DHL Express’ vision to utilize innovative ways such as SAF to power a greener future for the aviation space,” said Jeff Liow, the director of King of Rims Malaysia. “Ensuring our products are good for communities and the planet is our priority. By mitigating the carbon footprint of our logistics operations, we are taking active steps to create a more environmentally conscious shopping experience for our customers.”

Launched in 2023, GoGreen Plus allows customers to contribute towards the funding of SAF through a book-and-claim system.

The resulting carbon reduction from the committed amount can then be credited for scope 3 emission reporting, which refers to the indirect greenhouse gases produced in a company’s downstream value chain.

SAF is presently the only scalable short-term solution for long-distance flights.

Made from sustainably sourced renewable waste and residue raw materials, it can also cut the lifecycle emissions of typical aviation fuel by up to 80 percent.

King of Rims Malaysia serves an international customer base, which requires cross-border deliveries through air freight.

GoGreen Plus thus presents a viable way for the company to reduce carbon emissions.

According to the International Energy Agency, global CO2e emissions from the transport sector rose 3 percent in 2022, with much of the growth attributed to aviation.

This substantiates a greater need for alternative green solutions to alleviate increased cargo activity.

“SAF represents one of the most promising levers in air-transport decarbonization,” said Julian Neo, the managing director of DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei. “For SAF adoption to gain momentum requires deeper collaboration with partners and stakeholders across industries. We will continue to source for more opportunities to work together with businesses like King of Rims Malaysia in support of wider adoption of renewable energy resources.”

GoGreen Plus is part of DHL Group’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The service is made possible through strategic SAF contracts with BP, Neste and World Energy.

An independent third-party agency, Société Générale de Surveillance, verifies the reductions to be counted towards scope 3 and Science Based Targets (SBTi).
