Axens announced Oct. 2 that Green Carbon Development, led by Process Technical Services, an established technical-services provider to the refining and process industries, has selected Axens’ Vegan® technology for its upcoming renewable fuels facility.

Designed for a capacity of 10,500 barrels per stream day (BPSD), the Jasper project will deploy the Vegan® hydroprocessing solution to flexibly produce both sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.

This dual capability enables Green Carbon Development to respond to evolving market needs while maximizing carbon-abatement potential across the transportation sector, Axens stated.

“Integrating Axens’ Vegan® technology with Green Carbon’s platform creates a step-change in HEFA (hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids) performance,” said Gary Veazey, CEO of Process Technical Services.

“The ability to flex between SAF and renewable diesel production, coupled with our ability to reduce hydrogen demand and improve yields, gives our project a clear advantage in both economics and carbon intensity. Axens’ deep expertise and process guarantees provide the confidence we need to deliver a world-class facility,” Veazey said.

The facility will leverage PTS’s experience in plant design, operations and start-up services along with expertise in agricultural sourcing and feedstock logistics provided by the identified feedstock partner.

By integrating Axens’ technology, the venture is positioned to become a cornerstone of the region’s clean-energy economy, Axens stated.

“With this award, Axens further strengthens its track record for Vegan® technology globally as well as in the Americas,” said Tina Craft, the CEO of Axens Americas.

“We are proud to partner with Green Carbon on the development of this critical renewable fuels project and look forward to another successful deployment of Vegan® technology,” Craft said.

Axens will provide the technology license, catalysts, proprietary equipment, operator training and technical services for the project.

Axens brings decades of innovation in renewable fuels, beginning with Esterfip™ biodiesel technology—winner of the 2007 Kirkpatrick Award for Chemical Engineering Achievement—and advancing to today’s Vegan® solution, a globally recognized pathway for producing SAF and renewable diesel via the HEFA process.

With numerous commercial references worldwide, Vegan® enables producers to scale SAF and renewable diesel production while reliably meeting decarbonization targets, Axens stated.
