Global Partners LP announced it is now offering renewable diesel out of its East Haven terminal in Connecticut.

The leading independent energy supplier and retail operator called the move a major milestone in its sustainability journey.

The company said this is the first time the ecofriendly fuel has been available in Connecticut.

Renewable diesel is manufactured from fats, oils and waste products from the food and restaurant industries.

It provides the same performance as traditional petroleum diesel but with significantly lower emissions.

“Offering renewable diesel to our commercial customers underscores the importance of supporting sustainable practices and reducing carbon footprints,” said John McCusker, vice president of wholesale marketing at Global Partners.

“This innovative fuel burns cleaner, leading to lower greenhouse-gas emissions and better air quality,” McCusker added.

“We’re proud to be early adopters and suppliers of this green fuel, and we are excited to deliver it to the communities we serve,” he said.

Global Partners added that this development is a significant step toward helping Connecticut achieve its climate goals and offers its customers a robust option to reduce their environmental impact.
