FincoEnergies and Scan Global Logistics are strengthening their collaboration by implementing Biofuel Swap, a globally applicable solution for decarbonizing road transport.

With Biofuel Swap, Scan Global Logistics offers its customers immediate emissions reductions—with no changes to vehicles, infrastructure or daily logistics operations—through utilizing certified 100 percent renewable diesel, also known as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO100), a 100 percent biodegradable fuel, enabling verified, scalable CO2e reductions.

The partnership between FincoEnergies and Scan Global Logistics is built on a successful pilot project launched in 2023 that tested and optimized insetting solutions for road transport, laying the groundwork for the implementation of the Biofuel Swap initiative in 2025.

Martin Andersen, the global head of sustainability and ESG at Scan Global Logistics, expanded on the partnership.

“FincoEnergies is a leading expert in biofuel solutions,” Andersen stated. “Their expertise and reliable supply enable us to offer a high-quality solution to our customers that can help reduce road-transport emissions easily, immediately and worldwide.”

The road-transport sector remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels, while continuing to struggle with the limited availability of sustainable fuels, such as HVO, along key routes.

Additionally, logistics-service providers often cannot use physical renewable fuels within their owned or contracted assets, creating a gap between the need for emission reductions and their practical implementation.

Biofuel Swap presents a solution to this challenge by decoupling the environmental benefits from the physical use of biofuel.

While HVO100 is physically used in trucks in the Netherlands to create real, in-sector emission reductions, a robust book-and-claim approach enables customers worldwide to claim verified scope 3 emission reductions.

Moreover, customers receive transparent, traceable CO2e data that is easy to integrate into their own CO2 reporting.

“Biofuel Swap makes emission reductions tangible and traceable,” said Sophia Carrillo Beeck, a senior manager at FincoEnergies. “With Scan Global Logistics’ worldwide customer base and global network, the Biofuel Swap solution will have a broad reach. We’re proud to work with Scan Global Logistics to help customers move from climate targets to concrete action.”

According to the United Nations’ “Emissions Gap Report 2025,” longer-lead decarbonization technologies and enabling infrastructure are not scaling at the pace required to meet climate targets, underscoring the need for immediate solutions.

With Biofuel Swap, Scan Global Logistics offers a readily available and actionable alternative to help customers achieve their sustainability goals.

As the solution requires no operational changes, it is easily implemented worldwide.

HVO100 adds to Scan Global Logistics’ low-carbon solution catalogue, which already includes marine biofuel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and electric vehicles.

Biofuel Swap facts

  • The HVO100 is certified under an EU Renewable Energy Directive-approved voluntary scheme such as ISCC, RSB or REDCert, produced exclusively from waste and residue streams.

  • HVO100 delivers up to 90 percent well-to-wheel CO2e reduction compared to fossil diesel.

  • Verified CO2e reductions, traceable, transparent and not double-counted.

  • HVO100 is externally audited and fully compliant with EU sustainability criteria.

  • For Scan Global Logistics customers, the biofuel option can be built into a complete CO2 reduction plan for worldwide transportation.
