Italian supermajor and biofuel producer Eni announced Jan. 5 that, as of the start of the new year, the business branch of its refining evolution and transformation unit has been transferred to a newly formed company, Eni Industrial Evolution S.p.A.
Eni said the new company will aim to ensure the management of traditional assets such as refineries and depots in Europe and the Middle East and to consolidate the path of industrial transformation, also from a circular-economy perspective, through the development of new industrial supply chains.
The transaction, which Eni said entails the optimization of management and the simplification and acceleration of processes characterizing the businesses involved, is part of the supermajor’s strategy to ensure a fully decarbonized energy offering both in production processes and to consumers, seizing the opportunities and growth prospects offered by the energy transition.
As of Jan. 1, the scope of Eni Industrial Evolution includes:
The refineries of Sannazzaro de’ Burgondi (Pavia) and Taranto in Italy.
The stake in the Milazzo refinery joint venture in Sicily and the Livorno refinery in Italy.
The Robassomero plant in Italy.
The Research Center South in San Filippo del Mela, Sicily.
Primary logistics assets, namely depots and pipelines, and shareholdings in Ecofuel S.p.A. and Costiero Gas Livorno S.p.A.
According to Eni, the corporate operation aims to develop new supply chains in the field of industrial transformation, enhancing people’s expertise and the technologies developed in downstream activities “to ensure a future based on environmental, social and economic sustainability.”
Processing activities of raw materials and semifinished products in the refineries, as well as the reception, handling, storage and delivery of products in refineries and depots, will be ensured through contracts between Eni and Eni Industrial Evolution, to which licenses and authorizations, including customs ones, will be transferred.
The chairman and CEO of Eni Industrial Evolution is Umberto Carrara.
