EcoCeres Inc. announced Dec. 16 that it has attained certification under the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials’ ICAO CORSIA scheme for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a globally recognized standard aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation.
The certification goes further than other CORSIA-eligible schemes to ensure robust social safeguards and biodiversity protection, while confirming that EcoCeres’ SAF meets rigorous requirements for sustainability, greenhouse-gas (GHG) reduction and traceability.
The ICAO CORSIA certification, developed by RSB, is among the most robust frameworks globally for verifying SAF against stringent environmental and social criteria, including significant lifecycle-GHG reductions, protection of high-carbon and high-biodiversity areas, and strong safeguards for workers and local communities.
It is globally recognized as the best-in-class certification for SAF products by leading civil-society organizations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
“Receiving RSB ICAO CORSIA certification is a major milestone for EcoCeres and a strong endorsement of our commitment to producing SAF that delivers measurable climate benefits and advances the circular economy,” said Matti Lievonen, CEO of EcoCeres. “This recognition not only validates the robustness of our feedstock sourcing and production processes but also gives our airline partners confidence that our fuels meet the highest international standards for sustainability and emissions performance.”
The certification supports EcoCeres’ strategy to expand its presence in international SAF markets and to partner with airlines and fuel suppliers that must comply with CORSIA obligations and other emerging SAF mandates.
By combining waste‑based feedstocks, advanced production technologies and independent verification under RSB ICAO CORSIA, EcoCeres said it is well-positioned to help customers reduce lifecycle emissions from aviation while strengthening the credibility of their decarbonization claims.
The RSB ICAO CORSIA certification complements EcoCeres’ existing sustainability credentials and reflects the company’s mission to tackle climate change by converting waste into low-carbon energy solutions at scale.
As global demand for SAF continues to grow, EcoCeres said it aims to play an increasingly important role in providing a credible solution in supporting the aviation sector’s pathway to net-zero emissions.
