ClearSign Technologies announces start-up of 2nd multiburner heater at Kern Energy refinery in California
ClearSign Technologies Corp., a provider of industrial combustion and sensing technologies, announced May 22 that a five-burner heater has been successfully installed and is in operation at the Kern Energy refinery near Bakersfield, California.
Kern Energy is an independent, family-owned and operated company and, according to the company, is the only refiner between San Francisco and Los Angeles producing clean gasoline and renewable diesel.
The whole project consisted of two heaters totaling 13 burners.
This completed installation is for the second, a five-burner heater.
The first eight-burner heater was completed in January.
According to ClearSign Technologies, Kern Energy has been an early customer and has ongoing experience with the operation and performance of its burner technology.
ClearSign said the supply of its technology will help Kern Energy continue its ongoing work to reduce its environmental footprint while meeting and going beyond the strict emissions limits implemented to achieve California’s clean-air goals.
According to Kern Energy’s website, the company’s Bakersfield site was just the second refinery in the U.S. to produce renewable diesel by coprocessing biobased feedstocks and the first small refiner in California to blend biodiesel.
“We are proud to have completed the second of the two multiburner heaters at Kern Energy,” said ClearSign Technologies CEO Jim Deller.
“Kern has been a great partner and repeat customer who approached us for our ClearSign Core™ burner technology to advance their emissions and clean-air goals,” Deller added. “The two multiburner heaters from this order are significant additions to our installation base, great success stories and help validate our technology in the California market.”
Jennifer Haley, president and CEO of Kern Energy, said, “Kern Energy appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded, innovative partners like ClearSign to advance the technologies California needs to drive its clean-fuel evolution. There’s no limit to what we can accomplish when we work together, and our team is thrilled with the results from our long-standing partnership with ClearSign—culminating in this most recent project success.”
