Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co. Ltd., in collaboration with Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd., completed Hong Kong’s first B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation May 7, supplying ISCC EU-certified B30 marine biofuel to a containership operated by OOCL.
This milestone followed the 83rd session of the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 83) approval, which permits conventional bunker tankers to carry biofuel blends up to 30 percent.
The B30 blend, comprising 30 percent biodiesel, further reduced carbon emissions compared to B24 biofuel, advancing sustainable maritime operations.
This operation marks OOCL’s first B30 biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong, advancing its decarbonization strategy.
It also underscores CPN’s commitment to leading the adoption of sustainable marine fuels.
Authorized by the IMO’s updated regulations, CPN’s B30 marine biofuel met stringent sulfur standards and supported global decarbonization goals, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a hub for sustainable bunkering.
CPN said it remains dedicated to expanding marine biofuel availability and collaborating with industry partners to achieve the IMO’s net-zero target.
“This operation solidifies CPN’s mission to drive sustainable energy solutions in the maritime sector,” CPN stated.
