Carbox, the Tarros Group company specialized in road transport and operating in Italy, Egypt and Morocco, announced Nov. 6 that it is strengthening its commitment to sustainable and digitally integrated logistics, further consolidating the group’s path towards ecological transition and technological innovation across the Mediterranean.
With a fleet of 200 vehicles, over 95 percent of which are Euro 6 trucks, Carbox has launched a pilot project for the use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also known as renewable diesel, a biofuel that offers a concrete solution to reducing emissions and improving the overall efficiency of road transport.
The project, started in 2023 and developed through multiple phases, has confirmed the full interoperability of HVO with next-generation diesel engines, allowing vehicles to be refueled alternately with HVO or conventional diesel without any mechanical modifications or extraordinary maintenance.
Tests have also demonstrated equivalent fuel performance in terms of consumption, with emission reductions of up to 90 percent compared to traditional fossil fuels.
Thanks to the growing availability of HVO along major international routes, Carbox has been able to implement the project on a scalable basis, ensuring operational continuity and economic sustainability.
By the end of the third quarter of 2025, HVO accounted for 30 percent of Carbox’s total fuel consumption—a tangible result of a concrete and ambitious commitment that is already producing measurable impacts across the road-transport business, Carbox stated.
The initiative is part of the Tarros Group’s broader ESG strategy, aimed at building a sustainable intermodal model integrating maritime and road transport, in line with European decarbonization directives for the logistics sector.
In parallel with its energy-transition journey, Carbox has launched major digitalization projects aimed at enhancing processes’ efficiency and transparency.
Among the most significant initiatives are:
Digital management of the way-bill, which has drastically reduced paper usage and simplified document traceability.
Development of a digital operating platform that connects drivers, port terminals, depots and logistics partners in real time, improving load planning and timing accuracy.
Launch of experimental projects based on artificial intelligence, aimed at automating information flows and optimizing the management of work orders, in collaboration with leading technology companies.
These innovations enable more efficient transport management, reduce the risk of human error and enhance the overall quality of the service provided to customers, delivering direct benefits in terms of sustainability and competitiveness.
Thanks to Tarros Group’s integrated presence across the entire logistics chain, Carbox said it is able to define specific emission-reduction targets for each segment of intermodal transport, building an operational model that is both replicable and sustainable in other contexts.
“With the introduction of HVO and the digitalization of operational processes, Carbox reaffirms its commitment to sustainable innovation,” said Silvano Maggi, the managing director of Carbox. “The goal is to offer transport solutions that are increasingly efficient, responsible and competitive, in line with European sustainability standards and the expectations of the international market.”
