CarbonClick, SCB Group offer carbon-credit solution to accelerate aviation industry’s journey to net zero

New Zealand-based carbon-offset provider and climate-tech firm CarbonClick and low-carbon commodity company SCB Group are joining forces to offer a new complete end-to-end solution that will improve and streamline airlines’ approach to assessing and offsetting their carbon impact.
Promising to offer a one-stop solution for aviation companies to transform climate objectives into impactful action, the new partnership will allow both companies to offer a diverse and high-integrity portfolio of carbon credits through industry-leading technology, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), for both compliance carbon targets of aviation businesses and voluntary credits for passengers, employees and corporates.
The credits that will be available include those that invest in nature and community-based solutions, CORSIA-eligible carbon offsets, SAF certificates and Energy Attribute Certificates, including I-RECs.
For CarbonClick’s customers, this means they can support the growth of the SAF market through the expanded credit offering, and also access both voluntary and compliance requirements for the first time.
Via state-of-the art technology, customers will have the opportunity to incorporate carbon offsetting into more touchpoints than ever before, including passenger and employee offsetting, operational emissions and corporate travel.
The partnership will also benefit SCB’s customers, who will now have access to an enterprise-grade tech suite that facilitates voluntary programs, as well as access to CarbonClick’s self-serve platform, including project portfolio selection, real-time reporting and analytics.
“Our goal is to work towards a cooler planet, and we believe that by diversifying our offering and now including advanced credits like SAF, we provide another step for our customers to decrease their emissions and work towards a more sustainable industry,” said CarbonClick CEO Dave Rouse. “The new partnership will allow our aviation customers to accelerate their journey to net zero while being assured of a smooth and simple process and transparent, credible results. Aviation is one of the toughest sectors to achieve net zero, which comes under the most scrutiny around transparency and greenwashing. High integrity and transparency of carbon solutions are becoming critical to the aviation industry. This new partnership will accelerate the travel sector to net zero and prove how incredibly impactful offsetting can be when done meaningfully and complimentary to other decarbonization strategies. … [SCB’s] longstanding market experience and first-hand experience gained from financing projects is invaluable to CarbonClick and helps further strengthen our core values of supporting projects that make a real impact to people and planet. We’re looking forward to working with them and with our customers with a shared vision of impactful climate action.”
To strengthen the trust in the carbon-credit market, the combined selection process for carbon credits served through the solution will be robust, according to the companies, merging the strengths of both firms and passing CarbonClick’s ‘7-Point Impact Check,’ “giving customers a peace of mind that only the highest-quality credits are offered to them.”
As well as diversifying project portfolios, the partnership will offer an improved process of carbon-credit portfolio development to offer what CarbonClick said are the best and most bespoke offers for potential customers.
It will also aim to improve trust by ensuring that customers have a traceable project portfolio that transparently contributes towards reducing their carbon impact.
“Since 2007, SCB’s mission has been to promote a low-carbon future,” said SCB Group CEO Kevin McGeeney. “Decarbonization makes business and society stronger. Where decarbonization is proving intractable, progress should be made through climate action and offsetting. Our values guide us to a relentless pursuit of our clients’ objectives. The application of technology in partnership with CarbonClick makes the cost of adopting a low-carbon pathway more affordable and efficient. SCB shares CarbonClick’s enterprising nature putting connection and expertise at the heart of our actions, where we continue to push the boundaries for a low-carbon future.”
CarbonClick, which was established in 2019, already partners with a host of industry-leading aviation organizations including Etihad Airways, Amadeus, Changi Airport Group and Manchester Airports Group.
