Bangkok Airways announced May 9 that it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with and PTT Oil and Retail Business for cooperation in using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced domestically in Thailand.
The SAF will be used for Bangkok Airways flight operations, addressing the sustainability goals of both companies while driving Thailand’s aviation industry toward an environmentally friendly future.
The signing ceremony took place at Bangkok Airways’ headquarters.
Dechit Chareonwong, the senior executive vice president of operations at Bangkok Airways, said this marks another significant step for Bangkok Airways in collaboration with PTT Oil and Retail Business to elevate Thailand’s aviation industry toward a green flight path by using SAF produced domestically for the first time in Thailand.
The airline continues to advance its “Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways” campaign, which aims to reduce carbon emissions across all business operations.
This integrated cooperation will lead to promoting and preparing for the use of biofuels in Thailand’s aviation industry in the future, responding to the sustainable trend in Thailand’s aviation business.
This also aligns with the International Air Transport Association’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Chaipruet Watchareekhup, PTT Oil and Retail Business’ aviation and marine marketing manager, said the collaboration with Bangkok Airways represents a joining of forces between Thailand’s leading aviation fuel distributor and Bangkok Airways in using SAF produced by a domestic manufacturer for the first time.
The producer is PTT Global Chemical, which has developed innovative products and sustainable technology for SAF blending through the coprocessing method.
PTT Oil and Retail Business stated that it is proud to be part of this important collaboration and is committed to supporting Thailand’s aviation industry toward sustainability by supplying SAF to Bangkok Airways.
The companies said this agreement marks a significant step in elevating Thailand’s aviation-industry standards toward environmental friendliness and aligns with supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2065.
“This signing demonstrates a commitment to prioritizing sustainable practices in Thailand’s aviation industry and reflects the collaboration of industry leaders to address climate-change challenges and environmental impacts,” Bangkok Airways stated. “It also marks another important starting point for clean-energy development in Thailand’s aviation industry.”
