Air France KLM Martinair Cargo welcomes 2 Dutch partners to SAF program

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) signed agreements in late May with two leading Dutch freight forwarders—Best Global Logistics and Fast Forward Freight—for participation in its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) program.

Best Global Logistics has joined the AFKLMP SAF program for its 2021 marine logistics shipments (ship spares), as a crucial part of its Going Green strategy.

“We are very excited to have AFKLMP Cargo at our side, as a leading partner who is active in operating and promoting the reduction of carbon emissions in the airfreight industry,” said John Burgstra, co-CEO of the GTS group and group director of Best Global Logistics. “We are prepared to assume responsibility for the future generation of airfreight. We genuinely want to empower our customers and the entire industry to make more sustainable decisions. Through innovative tailor-made solutions, ambitious programs and reliable business practices, we strive to deliver green logistics solutions for our world. Now and in the future.’’

BGL is actively striving to reduce carbon emissions in the industry. As a global forwarder with a leading role in marine logistics, BGL in cooperation with 4PL sister company Marinetrans, wants to set an example for many others in the industry. With this in mind it recently introduced its Going Green strategy. The SAF program is an important part of the Going Green focus and enables BGL to connect people and goods through sustainable logistics.

Renowned Dutch freight forwarder Fast Forward Freight is committed to leading the industry in minimizing the impact of its activities on the environment. This ambition is an important reason for joining and investing in AFKLMP’s SAF program. FFF monitors its impact on the environment and sets targets for continuous improvement. Moreover, the company encourages adoption of similar principles by its suppliers.

“Fast Forward Freight in its blueprint will use every opportunity to be sustainable in its day-to-day activities,” said Marc Terpstra, CEO of Fast Forward Freight. “In this industry every step forward makes a big difference, and it is our social responsibility.”

Bernard Geersing, AFKLMP Cargo’s director Benelux, said, “We are extremely pleased with the willingness and concrete commitment of our Dutch partners Best Global Logistics and Fast Forward Freight to shape our common ambition for a more sustainable future. Together we are trendsetters in a field that will grow in our companies and in society.”

The Air France KLM Martinair Cargo SAF program enables stakeholders in the logistics and airfreight industry to power a percentage of their flights with SAF. Customers determine their own level of engagement and AFKLMP ensures that their entire investment is used for sourcing SAF. By participating in the program, customers not only reduce their carbon footprint, but confirm their commitment to leading the industry towards a more sustainable future.
