Renewable diesel powers 50,000 trips a year hauling Coke products in the Netherlands

Neste Corp. announced March 18 that, since January, it has been providing 100 percent renewable diesel to Coca-Cola in the Netherlands for transportation of all its beverages, in collaboration with its logistics partners.

According to Neste, this involves 50,000 trips per year hauling Coca-Cola, Fanta, Fuze Tea and Chaudfontaine, among other brands. The majority of the renewable diesel used by Coca-Cola in the Netherlands comes from Neste and is marketed as Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, the company stated.

“On many routes, for example, we drive with EcoCombi trucks,” said Marijke Jacobs-Heefer, associate director of country logistics at Coca Cola Europacific Partners Netherlands. “These are extra-long trucks that can take more products at once, and that saves a lot of trips per year. We have also already switched to 30 percent biofuel with some trucks. With the complete transition to HVO100 for the transport of all our drinks, we are building on previous steps and taking another big step forward. It means investing, of course, but the importance of our climate ambitions goes far.”

By switching to renewable diesel, diesel-powered vehicles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly and instantaneously.

“We are very proud to work with Coca-Cola in the Netherlands,” said Peter Zonneveld with Neste. “We are committed to supporting our customers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030.”

Total production capacity of Neste’s renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel is currently 1.1 billion gallons per year, but by early 2023 this will increase to more than 1.5 billion gallons.
