Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH (CAC), a plant engineering firm headquartered in Germany, announced that it has been contracted by the Austrian multinational oil, gas and petrochemical company OMV to construct its renewable diesel coprocessing project southeast of Vienna at OMV’s Schwechat refinery.

Biobased Diesel Daily brought news of OMV’s plans in December that the oil company would coprocess up to 160,000 tons of vegetable oils, including used cooking oil and other “advanced feedstocks,” with petroleum-based product to manufacture coprocessed renewable diesel. OMV is investing roughly 200 million euros at the site for this endeavor.

“With this project, we are joining OMV in taking a further step towards sustainable mobility,” said Jörg Engelmann, managing director of CAC. “Only with technological openness can we provide rapid and sustainable protection for our environment.”

CAC is responsible for all aspects of the project, including detailed engineering, project management and control, procurement services and construction-site management. CAC says this includes supply of equipment and bulk material such as piping, instrumentation and electrotechnical material.

CAC has built more than 500 industrial facilities over the past 55 years. The company also says it is currently launching its technology for the commercial manufacturing of synthetic gasoline.
