A large-scale renewable diesel production facility in Port Arthur, Texas, is expected to come online by mid-month, according to Randall C. Stuewe, chairman and CEO of Darling Ingredients.

The opening of the new Diamond Green Diesel plant, a joint venture between Valero Energy and Darling, is six months ahead of schedule, Stuewe said in Darling’s third-quarter earnings press release.

“Darling Ingredients delivered another strong quarter, carrying great momentum to finish the year with record earnings,” Stuewe said. “Strong worldwide demand for fats and proteins will continue to be a tailwind for our global ingredients business. Diamond Green Diesel III is expected to come online within the next week, six months ahead of schedule. This, once again, showcases our strength and expertise to satisfy demand for decarbonization solutions in a meaningful way.”

The 470-million-gallon-per-year (mgy) project was approved to move forward by the boards of both joint-venture partners in January 2021.

Diamond Green Diesel already can produce 690 mgy of renewable diesel at its recently expanded facility in Norco, Louisiana.

The expansion from 290 mgy to 690 mgy in Norco was completed in October 2021.

Once the Port Arthur, Texas, plant is operating, Diamond Green Diesel will have a total renewable diesel production capacity of nearly 1.2 billion gallons.
