Chiyoda Corp. announced Oct. 28 that it has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for installing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities in Taiyo Oil’s Okinawa operations in Japan.
Taiyo Oil is aiming to supply 200 million liters (nearly 53 gallons) of SAF and renewable diesel annually using ethanol-to-jet technology from its Okinawa operations, contributing to the Japanese government’s 2030 SAF supply target, equivalent to at least 5 percent of greenhouse-gas emissions of jet fuel produced and supplied in Japan in 2019.
Taiyo Oil’s SAF production project has been selected as a subsidized project by Japan’s ministry of economy, trade and industry.
Chiyoda will apply its technical capabilities and 70-year experience in oil-and-gas plant engineering to conduct the FEED for implementing the facilities in Taiyo Oil’s Okinawa operations and the decarbonization of aviation fuel.
As a comprehensive engineering company, Chiyoda is actively engaged in the development of biofuel production technology “towards the realization of a carbon-neutral society,” the company stated.
Through these initiatives, Chiyoda said it is engaged in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects worldwide and the development of carbon-neutral technologies.
