BP launches sale of renewable diesel in Spain

BP announced Oct. 23 that it has begun selling hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also known as renewable diesel, in Spain at select service stations.

The fuel is initially available at four service stations in Madrid, Valencia and Navarra.

These stations were selected for their strategic location in the Iberian Peninsula and for their connection to European markets.

BP said it will explore the possibility of extending the availability of HVO to more points of sale throughout 2025.

“With BP bioenergy HVO we complement our traditional commercial offer to remain the first choice for our fleet customers, who now have access to a fuel derived from low-carbon renewable sources and that can be used as a direct substitute for diesel in compatible vehicles,” said Iván Soler, BP’s senior director of fleet sales in Europe.

BP’s launch of renewable diesel sales at select stations complements the supply to logistics company Lodisna in 2023.

Its fleet has traveled more than 3 million kilometers (1.86 million miles) in Spain and Europe in less than a year using this fuel derived from renewable sources.

The pilot project in Spain adds to the BP’s introduction of HVO at service stations in other European countries such as the U.K., Austria, Germany and the Netherlands.
