Strategic Biofuels finalizes EPC agreement for Louisiana wood-to-diesel project

Wood-to-diesel project developer Strategic Biofuels announced April 21 that it has finalized a partnership with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Koch Project Solutions for its Louisiana Green Fuels project, which will convert wood waste into 34 million gallons of renewable diesel per year. The project expects to achieve a negative carbon footprint through carbon capture and sequestration, renewable power, and forestry-waste feedstocks.

Koch Project Solutions will construct the plant “on a lump sum turnkey basis with parent company backed guarantees with liquidated damages for performance and schedule delays,” Strategic Biofuels stated. Koch will be responsible for constructing, commissioning, and startup of biorefinery.

Last month, Strategic Biofuels announced that Louisiana Green Fuels had moved into the front-end engineering design (FEED) of engineering. When the FEED phase is complete in early 2023, Koch will provide Strategic Biofuels with a lump sum turnkey price for the plant, which will allow Strategic Biofuels to secure project financing and begin construction.

Koch has served in a project-management role for the Louisiana Green Fuels project since its inception in late 2020 and, according to Strategic Biofuels, has contributed to its progress.
