SAFuelsX project receives 2nd North Dakota APUC grant

North Dakota’s Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring announced Nov. 24 that AIC Energy Corp. was being awarded $60,000 from the state’s Agricultural Products Utilization Commission to offset costs associated with the licensing agreement for a new patent-pending technology process for use in its SAFuelsX project, a proposed 100-million-gallon-per-year renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility near Trenton, North Dakota. The company already received a grant of more than $200,000 from APUC earlier this year.

In June, Biobased Diesel Daily reported that the project in Williams County, North Dakota, inched closer to being built when the planning and zoning commission unanimously recommended approval of a conditional use permit.

The SAFuelsX project is expected to use soybean and canola oils feedstock and AIC Energy anticipates construction to begin next year and start-up to commence by late 2023.

According to the North Dakota APUC, the technology to be used by AIC Energy for its SAFuelsX project “will allow more flexibility with the new, innovative equipment that will be used to refine sustainable aviation and renewable diesel fuels.”
