Nishida to serve as acting EPA administrator until Regan confirmation

On his first day as U.S. president, Joe Biden announced dozens of acting agency leadership positions across the administration to lead federal agencies until cabinet nominees are confirmed. To temporarily run the U.S. EPA, Biden has appointed Jane Nishida.

Nashida

In 2017, Nashida served as acting administrator for EPA’s Office of International and Tribal Affairs and later as principal deputy assistant for OITA. Previously, she was director of the Office of Regional and Bilateral Affairs within OITA.

Nishida has 30 years of environmental experience working in federal and state government, and international and nongovernmental organizations.

In December, Biden chose Michael Regan, secretary of North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality, to lead EPA under his administration.

The EPA administers the Renewable Fuel Standard program and plays a big role in a variety of decisions affecting biofuels.
