Maire Tecnimont subsidiaries to provide feedstock-pretreatment plant in Poland

Italy-based Maire S.p.A. announced June 20 that its Integrated E&C Solutions and Sustainable Technology Solutions subsidiaries have been awarded new contracts for an overall value of approximately USD$260 million by international clients mainly in Europe, Asia and South America.

In particular, KT-Kinetics Technology has been awarded an IE&CS contract for a pretreatment plant by PKN Orlen, a Polish multinational oil refiner and fuel retailer, with major operations in Central Europe.

The duration of the project is slated to last 24 months.

The pretreatment plant, to be installed inside the Płock Refinery in Central Poland, will process vegetable oils, used cooking oils and animal fats to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), also referred to as renewable diesel, for domestic and international markets*.

NextChem, part of Maire’s STS business unit, will act as technology integrator for the project.

The unit will be the first of this kind in Poland and will contribute to the country’s decarbonization plans, in line with the EU directives.

“The PKN award is a testament of Maire’s expertise in renewable fuels and value creation from second-generation feedstock obtained from nonfood crops,” said CEO Alessandro Bernini.

Thanks to the group’s integrated approach across its two business units, Maire confirms its role as project enabler and technology integrator in the energy transition,” Bernini added.

*Editor’s Note: Last July, PKN Orlen announced the signing of a deal with Polish airline Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT, in which PKN Orlen discussed the ability of its HVO project to offer SAF to airlines beginning in 2025. The project is scaled at approximately 100 million gallons per year.
